One of my strengths is being extremely organized and detail-oriented, where are my Type A people at?? I have lists for pretty much every aspect of my life, even my lists have lists 😅. Home organization is often one of the first tasks Redo the Zoo completes before we start on an interior decorating and styling project. Read on to learn some of our home organization tips & tricks.
One of the most important parts of organization to me that can have a positive impact on your physical and mental health is the organization of your home. I’ll let you in on a little secret of mine just to prove my point. I cannot start working on a task or go to sleep at night if my space is not organized and everything is in place. To me, everything in my house has a designated home.
I have put together a few of my thoughts on organization and how you can transform your home without spending money, in fact you might even make some money here!
Tip 1
The first tip I have is to start with one room at a time, nobody wants to tackle the whole house at once.
Tip 2
After you have chosen your room, take inventory of the room. What do you have that is an absolute must keep? This could be things your family has passed down through generations or sentimental items. I will never tell you to give away items that you have a true emotional attachment to.
Tip 3
Next look for items that you bought or were gifted to you that you no longer love and you can donate to Goodwill or someone else who may love it.
Tip 4
Along the same lines, look for items that you don’t want anymore but have value and you can sell. The profit you make can be reinvested back in your space. My favorite way to sell these items is through eBay, Offerup, or Facebook Marketplace. If you are using Facebook Marketplace please be safe and bring another person with you when you meet the buyer. If these items are clothes, then you may have success selling them on the app, Poshmark, or your local Plato’s Closet or Style Encore.Â
When you declutter your room, you’re also decluttering a bit of your mind. For me, when things are organized it’s like a mental checkmark and a way to relieve stress.
